The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) is a global non-profit research organisation headquartered in Sydney, Australia with a branch in New York.Representatives of this organisation have been engaged in monitoring the world peace for several years. They take into account 23 factors that affect the rating of a country in one way or the other. They include the number of the army personnel, military expenditures, crime rate, percentage of prisoners, number of deaths of foreigners, and the level of education of citizens. Especially vague is the criterion called commitment to democratic principles in politics. The main criterion is absence of violence.Pakistan has been ranked 146th out of 153 on the peace index of the IEP. Somalia has been given the bottom spot, Iraq is one place behind, preceded by Sudan while Afghanistan is at 150th place.Russia has been ranked one place below Pakistan and Israel is one place above. The US comes at the 71st place of the index of the most peaceful countries.The IEP report says that after the uprising in many Arab countries, their peace graph has also fallen.According to the IEP, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world followed by New Zealand and Japan.
