ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Thursday upheld the appointment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abrar-ul-Haq as Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), also known as Hilal Ahmar, chairman.

According to details, the IHC rejected the petition filed by outgoing PRCS chairman Saeed Elahi against the PTI leader and removed the stay order as well. The verdict was announced by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

Abrar-ulHaq was appointed as the PRCS chairman on November 15. The appointment was approved by President Dr Arif Alvi and Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination issued a notification in this regard.

However, the decision was challenged by Saeed Elahi who claimed in his petition that his three-year tenure would be completed in March 2020.

The plaintiff took the stance that the PTI leader’s appointment is illegal. He added that it is also a matter of conflict of interest as Abrar-ul-Haq is currently acting as the head of Sahara Foundation.
