Summary Supreme Court has said that licence renewal is the prerogative of the Balochitsan government.

A three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, resumed the hearing of Reko Diq mines project case on Tuesday.The CJP said that mining licence of Tethyan Company had expired and issuance of the new licence was the prerogative of the Blochistan government. The petitioner’s lawyer said that the Balochistan cabinet had decided not to renew the licence of the company.The CJP asked the Balochistan government’s lawyer to inform the court about the government’s stance and adjourned the hearing by tomorrow. On previous hearing, Balochistan Advocate General Salahuddin Mengal told the court that neither the Tethyan Company had deposited any project fee nor it submitted a feasibility report about the project.The counsel for the Tethyan Company, Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, said that his client was ready to make an out of the court settlement.
