Violent winds, thunderstorm claims 25 lives in Punjab

Summary At least 25 people were killed and several others were injured in violent storms and thunder storms.

Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and directed relevant institutions to provide assistance. In Sahiwal, 10 people including a woman lost their lives and more than 70 were injured in separate incidents as several buildings, billboards and trees also fell due to the severe storm.One person was killed and eight were critically injured as a cloud to ground lightning struck in Kamalia.In other cases of lightning striking the ground, three women in Jhang, a 10-year-old in Safdarabad and a father, son were injured in Tandlianwala. One person was killed and one was injured in Muzaffargarh.Four people including an 11 year-old-girl were killed in Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Tounsa Sharif when lightning hit the ground. A woman was killed when an electricity pole fell in Pakpattan while another was killed and 10 were injured when a roof collapsed in Kasur. In Bahawalpur, electricity poles, billboards, and walls collapsed injuring 35 people. Three people including two women were injured when their residence caught fire in Multan.Two women were seriously injured when the walls collapsed as several roof were also blown away by the violent storm in Kot Addu.
