US drastically cuts Coalition Support Fund
Updated on

Summary Serious differences have emerged between the US and Pakistan over the payment of support fund.

The US Defence Department has withheld the payment of $ 1.30 billion. Pentagon has reduced the payment by 40 percent. US administration has alleged Pakistan execrates expenditures on war on terror. Pakistan has demanded $3.20 billion in Coalition Support Fund. For instance Pakistan has billed $ 50 million for hygiene and chemical expenses but received only $ 8 million. Pakistan’s joint staff requested $580,000 to cover food, medical services, vehicle repair and other services but the US paid nothing. In another incident, Pakistan demanded $ 11million for helicopter operations. Only half of the amount was paid. Officials in Pakistan complain they have to furnish receipt for even a cup of tea. Reports suggest this state of affairs indicates deteriorating ties and trust-deficit between the two allies.
