Summary The attorney general presented the record of Zulfikar Ali Bhuttos case in the Supreme Court.

An 11-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the presidential reference about the reopening of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s case on Monday.During the hearing, Justice Javed Iqbal asked from Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq whether the government or the court would have to give permission to publicise the secret investigation report prepared by Justice (r) Shafiur Rehman. The CJP remarked that it was up to the government to decide whether it would like to make the report public or not. Noted lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, who is assisting the court in the case, said that the other record related to the case could also be helpful for the court in reaching a conclusion. He said that he would file an application for the production of the related record. The CJP said that Bhutto was not an ordinary citizen, but the president and prime minister of the country.There is a democratic government in the country and the president and the prime minister have faith in the judicial system.The hearing was adjourned until May 10.
