Gilani discusses bilateral issues with Sarkozy

Summary PM Gilani has said that France recognises Pakistans right to acquire civil nuclear technology.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris and discussed bilateral and regional issues with him.Talking to media after the meeting, the prime minister said that France had agreed to Pakistan’s stance on the peaceful use of civil nuclear technology. He said that the West would keep funding and helping Pakistan in war on terror.French President assured Pakistan to enhance the capability of its law enforcement agencies and extend full cooperation in combating militancy and terrorism with increased cooperation in defence and security.Gilani said that in his talks with President Sarkozy, they also focused on the situation in Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan was interested in normalisation of Afghan situation and all the issues should be resolved according to the will of the Afghan people. He said Sarkozy had also agreed on this.Prime Minister Gilani also met French Senate President Gerard Larcher and discussed the current situation in Afghanistan. Gilani said that war on terror would continue; however, circulation of negatives messages would create difficulties for Pakistan.
