ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Family of Pakistani prisoners protested today (May 22) outside Islamabad National Press Club as release of prisoners was delayed by China. Protestors said that despite the judicial orders and the agreement, the delay of return is not understandable.
While protesting outside the National Press Club, one of the protestors expressed that 400 Pakistanis are rotting in Chinese jails. Despite the agreement, families are waiting for the release for seven months due to uninterested authorities.
Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered the return of prisoners eleven months ago, despite which no progress was made. Protestors informed that they met the former State Minister Shehryar Khan Afridi for five times when he assured cooperation whereas current State Minister Ijaz Shah is not even giving time to meet.
According to protesters, 70% of Pakistani prisoners in China are serving time for drug abuse whereas most of them have already served their sentences. Protestors demanded that the government should take serious measures to bring their loved ones back.
