Summary People of AJK still use out dated modes of travel which are both old and dangerous
(Web Desk) – Azad Kashmir is known for its picturesque beauty with lush green valleys, rivers and mountains, analogized as heaven on earth but the people of AJK still use out dated modes of travel which are both old and dangerous from the safety perspective.
Many areas of AJK are still without the basic infrastructure of pulls and bridges. This lack is witnessed not just in far flung villages but in the heart of the capital Muzaffarabad.
The dweller s of Bela Noor Shah are forced to use the manually operated ‘dolli lift’ to travel across the river to save time as the other way around is a longer route through the Neelum pull or Chehla pull.
Dolli lift made of iron bars, hangs in the air, connected through ropes from one side to the other, can move across 3-4 people at a time across the river. It is operated by a man standing on one side of the river, spinning the steel wheel with his hands while passengers are on board the lift.
Despite an array of government departments providing for the people on paper, the common folk including, children, women, old and young have to pass through this unsafe ordeal as part of their daily routine.

Sometimes the school children have to use the ‘dolli lift’ when transport isn’t available.
Not only do the local populace including school, university and college students use this dangerous means to get across but in case of an emergency or an accident this lift is used to get to the hospital. Its frail condition has led to many accidents; people even get stuck on this lift while moving across.
These lifts are also used as a means to transport goods.

The people though forced to use the archaic means of transport want the government to show some concern and build them a bridge to move across which will save their time and provide them security.
