LAHORE (Dunya News) – PM Imran Khan in a major cabinet reshuffle has appointed Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh as advisor to PM on Finance. The new appointment came after former Finance Minister Asad Umer stepped down from his post earlier.

Earlier, it surfaced on media that the incumbent government is taking four names under consideration for the post of finance advisor after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar  decided to step down as Finance Minister.

The names include Shaukat Tareen, Hafeez Pasha, Dr Ishrat Hussain and Salman Shah. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has also summoned Federal Minister for Power Umar Ayub Khan to the Prime Minister House.

The final pick,Dr Sheikh was born in Jacobabad Sindh and has a vast experience of economic policy making. His father Abdul Nabi Sheikh was among the founding members of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

PM Imran changes portfolios of several federal ministers

He got his doctorate from Boston University USA and remained Professor at Harvard University.

In 1990s Dr Sheikh enjoyed the portfolio of Director Economic Operations at World Bank in KSA and represented World Bank in more than 21 countries.

Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh was Federal Minister for Privatization and investment in 2003-2006 and Sindh’s Finance and Planning Minister in 2000-2002. He also held portfolio of 20th federal Finance Minster in year 2010-2013. At that time 34 transactions of $5 billion were made in privatization sector. He remained active in politics and was elected as a Senator by PPP.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday has changed and re-allocated the portfolios of ministers of the federal cabinet.

According to Dunya News, Fawad Chaudhary has been given the portfolio of Minister for Science and Technology, while Ghulam Sarwar will be Minister for Aviation, Ijaz Ahmed Shah Minister for Interior and Shehryar Afridi Minister of State for SAFRON.
