Summary Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir reaches Washington where he will hold talks with the US officials.

A delegation of Pakistani diplomats, headed by Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, has reached Washington on a two-day visit on the invitation of US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Marc Grossman, who will lead the American side in two rounds of meetings of a steering group. The meetings will be held at the State Department and the Pakistani embassy. The talks are going to be held in the backdrop of tensions that arose after the killing of two Pakistanis by a Central Intelligence Agency contractor Raymond Davis and Islamabad’s objections to frequent drone strikes in Pakistani tribal areas. Security and foreign affairs experts believe that strong ties between Pakistan and the US are significant for the outcome of the decade-old Afghan conflict.
