ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday has disposed of a case pertaining to Pakistan Railways land.

During the hearing, the bench barred Pakistan Railways from selling its land and said that the land which is not required for Railways operation can be leased out for a period of five years.

The top judge said that the interim order regarding Royal Palm Golf and Country Club will be effective.

Earlier, SC had dissolved administrative board of Royal Palm Golf and Country Club and ordered to immediately seize all the record.

CJP had directed to continue all the matters of the club as per schedule and also ruled that the land owned by Pakistan Railways will not be leased or used for constructing housing societies.

Pakistan Railways had sealed Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in a bid to recover Rs2.16 billion outstanding dues.
The department had also terminated lease contract that was signed in 2001 with Mainland Husnain Pakistan Limited (MHPL).

It is to be mentioned here that in 2011, a petition was filed in SC stating that 141 acres of land belonging to the railways department was sold to the club in 2001 for rupees 10 billion on a 49 year lease.
