Summary Consultations were held over the formation of standing committees and names of their chairmen.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A meeting of parliamentary leaders presided by speaker Asad Qaiser was held on Wednesday over the matter pertaining to the formation of National Assembly’s standing committees.
The government body was represented by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Khattak and Farogh Naseem.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Tanveer, Shiza Khawaja, Pakistan Peoples Party’s Khurshid Shah, Shazia Marri, Naveed Qamar and Muttahida Mjalis-e-Amal’s Maulana Abdul Wasy attended the meeting from the opposition’s side.
Consultations were held over the formation of standing committees and names of their chairmen. The members failed to reach consensus on any committee except the one related to law and justice.
The meeting decided to allot the chairmanship of law and justice standing committee to the government.
The opposition insisted on being assigned chairmanship of 19 committees however; the government was adamant to designate only 17 committees.
“It has been decided that a resolution of two committees will be presented in NA on Friday,” Rana Tanveer told media.
Shazia Marri asserted that a decision over the standing committees will be taken soon. “We request the government to allot the chairmanship of 19 committees to the opposition,” she reiterated.
“The formation of these committees is necessary for legislation. An agreement will be made on this issue as it was done over Public Accounts Committee,” she added.
