Summary Electricity shortfall has reached 3,000 megawatts.
Duration of load shedding in urban areas reached three hours a day while load shedding in rural areas reached eight hours a day. According to PEPCO Director General Muhammad Khalid, the main reason of shortfall was a decrease in hydel electricity. Electricity production is 11,200MW while its demand is 14,200MW, he said. According to sources, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are producing less electricity due to shortage of gas supply. Duration of unannounced loadshedding reached 18 hours in Peshawar and 12 hours in Quetta, they said.
