Sindh apex committee decides to put anti-terror provisions on street crimes

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh Apex Committee on Monday took significant decisions in its 23rd session held after 11 years.

The meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was attended by Karachi corps commander, Sindh chief secretary, director general (DG) Rangers, Sindh inspector general of police and other officials.

The participants exchanged views on National Action Plan (NAP), investigation into anti-terrorism cases, prosecution and current security situation in the country.

It was told that legal reforms are being considered to end the rampant street crimes in the city following which anti-terror provisions will be placed on them.

The meeting decided that the crime cases would be heard by special magistrates under Section 30 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) while those convicted will be handed prison sentences ranging from three to seven years.



It was ascertained that madrassas and other educational institutions will be monitored whereas the funding and curriculum will be reviewed.

Safe city was decided to be initiated as pilot project in red zone of Karachi.

Karachi corps commander said that Army Chief will be requested to provide assistance to Sindh Government from their cyber security wing.

DG Rangers briefed that more than 2000 suspects were arrested in 2018 during 4031 operations. He informed that 1100 vehicles were stolen and165 snatched from the citizens.

It was also confirmed in the meeting that 32000 citizens were deprived of mobile phones. The meeting concluded that the data of mobile seller and buyer should stay with the shopkeeper.

Sindh IG told that at least 12733 suspects were arrested in the ongoing year.

The apex committee was apprised that 952 foreigners are working on 93 non-CPEC and 2878 foreigners on 10 CPEC projects for which 2859 security personnel of army, Rangers, police and FC have been deployed.

The meeting also discussed anti-encroachment operation, attack on Chinese consulate and blasts in Landhi and Gulistan-e-Johar. It made compulsory to install tracker in motorcycle.

The implementation of the decisions taken in the previous session was reviewed and the minutes were approved.
