ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Friday has constituted an inquiry commission to probe Army Public School (APS) massacre that claimed lives of 141 people, including 132 schoolchildren.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar heard the suo motu case during which, the top judge directed the commission to submit report in six weeks.

APS attack

On December 16, 2014, more than 140 people including 132 schoolchildren were killed when Taliban gunmen broke into Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar and opened fire.

More than eight hours after militants slipped into the heavily guarded compound through a back entrance, the army said that all nine insurgents had been killed.

“We selected the army’s school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females,” said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani. “We want them to feel the pain.”

NAP

The National Action Plan (NAP) was immediately launched by Pakistan Army in the wake of the APS attack so as to work on the strategy to combat terrorism.

Mastermind Umar Mansoor killed

Mastermind of the deadly attack Umar Mansoor was killed after he was injured in United States drone strikes in Afghanistan.

U.S. Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook had also confirmed that the forces carried out an air strike in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on July 9, killing Umar Khalifa and four other militants.

Umar Mansoor had also claimed responsibility for planning the attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda on January 20 in which 22 people, most of them students and teachers, were killed.
