KP, Sindh Assemblies commence sessions to elect speakers, deputy speakers

Summary The balloting has been started in the assemblies to elect their speakers and deputy speakers.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Newly elected members of provincial assembly (MPAs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh on Wednesday, have started secret balloting for selection of speakers and deputy speakers.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani for slot of KP Assembly’s speaker and Mahmood Jaan for position of deputy speaker.

Laiq Mohammad and Jamshed Mohammad have been nominated for the aforementioned slots respectively by the opposition.

On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zaradari has nominated Agha Siraj Durrani for the speaker’s role and Rehana Leghari as deputy speaker in Sindh Assembly.

Earlier on August 13, inaugural sessions of both assemblies were held, during which newly elected members took oath from outgoing speaker.

Meanwhile, National Assembly also met to elect its speaker and deputy speaker. PTI nominated Asad Qaiser while opposition gave name of Syed Khurshid Shah for speaker post.

PTI’s Qasim Suri stood against JUI (F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman’s son Asad Mehmood for slot of deputy speaker.
