Summary Imran Khan hailed the court’s verdict in Hanif Abbasi’s ephedrine case.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed reacted to the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi’s life imprisonment in ephedrine case and said that it is ‘law of retaliations’.
Sheikh Rasheed said that we should not be happy even on the enemy’s death.
On the other hand, during his elections campaign in Bannu and Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan also hailed the court’s verdict in Hanif Abbasi’s ephedrine case.
Imran said that court handed life imprisonment to Hanif Abbasi for selling drugs, adding that the court verdict demonstrated independent judiciary.
On Saturday, special court handed life imprisonment to Hanif Abbasi in ephedrine quota case after which, he was shifted to Adiala Jail.
Hanif Abbasi had provided legal use of as much as 363KG ephedrine whereas he was failed to submit the evidence pertaining to legal usage of 137KG ephedrine in the court.
Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram pronounced the judgment and also imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the PML-N leader.
However, seven other accused in ephedrine case were acquitted by the court.
In the light of court’s verdict, Hanif Abbasi has been barred from contesting elections from Rawalpindi’s NA-60.
It is to be mentioned here that Hanif Abbasi was accused of selling as much as 500kg of controlled chemical ephedrine to the narcotics smugglers. All requests of Hanif Abbasi aimed at delaying the ephedrine case by ten days was rejected by the courts.
The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had registered the case against Abbasi and his accomplices back then in June 2012 under various sections of the Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) Act.
The anti-narcotics court had indicted Hanif Abbasi and the other accused back then in 2014.
