Updated on

Summary The Supreme Court on Tuesday released the detailed judgment on Deedar Hussain Shah case.

In its 33 page long ruling, the court said that appointing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman was not the prerogative of the president and a purposeful consultation with the opposition leader and the chief justice of Pakistan was mandatory for the appointment. According to the verdict, Deedar Hussain Shah has also been disqualified for the office of the NAB chairman because the Law Ministry had issued the notification of his reappointment. The Supreme Court also ordered the government to make an appointment for the vacant post of the NAB prosecutor general, besides appointing the new chairman. Earlier, the Supreme Court had invalidated the appointment of Deedar Shah on March 10 in a brief judgement. The opposition leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, had challenged the appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as the NAB chairman.
