Summary Welcomes the UN report on atrocities in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK)
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president on Friday said that the resolution of Kashmir dispute is not possible without dialogues.
While welcoming the UN report on atrocities in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK), he said that United Nations Human Rights chief’s demand for an international investigation into abuses in Kashmir is a step in the right direction.
The ex-Punjab CM said that the statement of Indian army chief that the resolution of Kashmir dispute is not possible without dialogues is and admission to Pakistan and PML-N’s stance.
Shehbaz went on to say that the abuses in Kashmir by Indian forces is in front of the entire world, adding that the Kashmiris have sacrificed lives in their struggle for freedom.
Earlier, the UN human rights chief had called for an international investigation into abuses in Kashmir, as his office released its first-ever report on alleged rights violations committed by both India and Pakistan in the disputed territory.
Zeid Ra ad Al Hussein said he would urge the Human Rights Council, which opens a new session next week, "to consider establishing a Commission of Inquiry (COI) to conduct a comprehensive independent international investigation into allegations of human rights violations in Kashmir".
On the other hand, India, on its part, rejected the claims made in the report.
On Thursday, Indian foreign affairs ministry in a statement had rejected the report declaring it fallacious, tendentious and motivated.
"It is a selective compilation of largely unverified information. It is overtly prejudiced and seeks to build a false narrative.”
