ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday gave caretaker government authority to appointments and promotions in the government sector.

The Commission had banned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government from hirings in public institutions in light of the upcoming general elections.

The ECP spokesman said that the caretaker governments can make appointments and promotions under public interest.

On April 1, the ECP had announced that there will be a hiring freeze in appointments made by federal, provincial and local governments.
The step seeks to ensure the transparency of the upcoming general elections, the ECP added.

Moreover, the implementation of all the development schemes, which have been taken after April 1, will also be put to a halt. The development schemes include those pertaining to the supply of gas and water, construction and carpeting of roads.
