Summary The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday asked the government to file a report on the status of PCO judges.

A seven member SC bench, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing appeal of the judges who took oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) of 2007. Raza Kazim, the lawyer of Justice Hamid Ali Shah, said that his client could not apologise for taking oath under the PCO, unless it would be established that he was guilty. The chief justice said that the PCO was an extra constitutional act that was punishable under the article 6 of the constitution. He said that it was unprecedented in the country’s history that an unconstitutional act was not indemnified. The chief justice said that it was decided the law would rule the country and adjourned the hearing till April 4.
