Bogus votes: SC issues notices to ECP, NADRA, attorney general

A two-member Supreme Court bench, headed by chief justice of Pakistan, on Tuesday issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), NADRA and Attorney General on a petition filed by Dunya News anchor, Mubashir Luqman. Luqman had challenged the voter lists through Advocate Ali Zafar after it was revealed that over 37 million voters found in the electoral rolls of 2007 were bogus.The counsel for the petitioner requested the court to correct the electoral rolls to ensure holding of transparent elections in the future. He said that the lists were first prepared in 1998 and gradually updated with the passage of time. He said that who knows how many public representatives reached the assemblies through bogus votes. He also presented before the court a NADRA press release to substantiate his point of view.The CJP remarked that it was a matter of national importance and issued notices to the ECP, NADRA and Attorney General. The hearing has been adjourned until March 25.
