(Dunya News) – Trees that cleansed the air and provided shelter from the scorching sun, once were found in abundance in Karachi. Now they are hard to trace in the metropolitan city.

With plenty of initiatives aiming to revive the greenery in the city having failed in the past, Karachi has now become a city without trees.

Providing shelter from the sun, trees are a major source of oxygen. Where concerned departments are finding it impossible to grow more trees, in some parts of the city, tall trees are being cut to make way for new roads.

Sharah-e-Quaid is one of the busiest parts of Karachi where trees are being cut down making residents and commuters concerned.

Speaking to Dunya News, Karachiities expressed their dismay, over the felling of trees. “They should not cut these trees. They not only beautify the city but gives us shelter from the sun," a commuter said.

In the wake of increased construction in Karachi, citizens hope the Metropolitan City administration would put a halt to the cutting of trees and instead initiate successful projects to plant more trees in Karachi.
