(Dunya News) – In an attempt to bring smiles to the faces of young children living in Karachi women jail with their incarcerated mothers, the jail administration took the children out for a day trip to joy land.

Dressed in colourful clothes, taking rides and singing nursery rhymes, children aged 2 to 7 years enjoyed their day out.

The jail administration earlier took children to sea-view and Karachi Zoo as part of the same initiative.

The trip proved to be a blessing for children whose faces brightened up as they took joy rides and had meals out in the open.

Children said they enjoyed the rides and had a great time.

Speaking to Dunya News, Nusrat Mangan, Inspector General (IG) Prisons said that children had such a great time they asked him not to take them back to the jail. “Of course, this is hard for me…to return them back to the jail because I have no other option.”

There are 23 children currently living with their incarcerated mothers, where 13 children from the age of 2 to 7 were taken out for an outing by the administration.

Sheeba Shah, Superintendent of Women Jail, said that the reason for bringing these children out of the jails was to ensure that when they leave the confinement of the jail along with their mothers, these spaces are not new for them.

“To bring them closer to the outside world and to make them familiar to these places is our main goal,” she said.

After all the games and joy rides, children had their favorite fast food meals, which highlighted their trip.
