ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC) will start hearing of the case today (Tuesday) to determine whether a parliamentarian disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution stands disqualified to become a member of the parliament for one year, five years or for lifetime.
Five-member larger bench headed by Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will start proceedings and hear pleas of several parliamentarians who were disqualified by the court for possessing fake degrees.
Former premier Nawaz Sharif and former secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Jahangir Tareen were also disqualified by the apex court under Article 62(1)(f) for concealing assets
The Supreme Court had also served notices to Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen to either appear in person or through their counsel during court’s proceedings today.
