Conjoined twins operation at PIMS, doctors save one

Summary A 15 member team of doctors saved one child of conjoined twins in an operation in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad.

Professor Amjad Chaudhry, Dr. Zaheer Abbasi and Dr. Nadeem Akhtar led the team that performed the operation on three and a half month old conjoined twins, born in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to doctors, one of the children had not developed properly and was attached with its twin from waist. They said that they are hopeful for the survival of the child who would be kept in intensive care unit for three days. It was only the fourth operation of its kind in Pakistan, doctors said.
