Summary Khursheed Shah demanded to give people of FATA their rights.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The issue of not presenting FATA reforms bill in National Assembly has once again echoed during its session on fourth day today (Thursday).
During the meeting, the opposition satged walked out, demanding to bring the bill on NA session agenda.
Addressing the House, Opposition Leader in NA Khursheed Shah asked why the authorities are not unearthing, adding that we don’t need to follow any ‘alien’ law as we have our own constitution. He further demanded to give people of FATA their rights.
Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed said that FATA matter was also eliminated from cabinet session. He said that the opposition will continue to stage walk out until tabling the bill.
Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also created ruckus when Qaumi Watan Party Chief Aftab Ahmed Sherpao started his speech.
Earlier, FATA members, lawmakers from the PTI, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had announced a boycott of the house proceedings until the much-delayed legislation will be introduced.
Opposition leader Khursheed Shah said that FATA issue has to be resolved now as the matter is facing delay since 70 years. He blamed the government for not taking the issue seriously.
“First they brought the bill in hurry and then removed it from the agenda. The government should tell why it is doing this. It should have consulted the opposition before presenting the bill,” he said.
Government’s reluctance over FATA reforms bill also triggered ruckus in NA as lawmakers from the opposition parties tore down copies of the day’s agenda and gathered in front of the speaker’s dais before staging a walkout.
In May, the FATA reforms bill was suspended in the Lower House, and Khursheed Shah had strongly condemned the government while accusing it of halting the bill through their allies.
