WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will meet his United States (US) counterpart Secretary Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser Lt.Gen. H.R. McMaster in Washington today (Wednesday).

Khawaja Asif had arrived in Washington on Tuesday evening on a three-day visit to overcome deterioration in mutual ties with US.

The authorities said that a joint statement could be expected after the talks to inform about the agenda of the meetings.

It is to be mentioned here that the relations between US and Pakistan became hostile after President Donald Trump’s speech on August 21 who announced new policy for South Asia and blamed Pakistan for providing safe havens to terrorists.

Trump also lauded the role of India in Afghanistan, ignoring Islamabad’s concerns.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that Pakistan is being criticized for the failure of US in Afghanistan, adding that Taliban, who have occupied 42 percent part of Afghanistan, don’t need to use Pakistani land.

Asif said the so-called 20 billion dollars aid to Pakistan was in fact repayment of the services rendered by Pakistan in fighting terrorism.
