Karachi: Teachers reject offer of 3-month extension

Summary The sit-in protest of Sindh Lower Education Workers continues in front of Karachi Press Club, Dunya News reported. Then, they tried to march towards Sindh CM House but police stopped them and resorted to use shelling and tear gas to disperse them. Several teachers sustained injuries when police baton-charged them. The teachers have rejected government's offer to give them three months extension.

The education workers are demanding the payment of their salaries and appointment on permanent basis.No higher authority of the education department has contacted the protesters so far. The protesting employees said that 7188 workers were employed on contract basis for 3 years which was extended for 6 months. During this period they were promised to appoint on permanent basis but no steps were taken in this regard.A delegation of MQM met the protesters and assured to resolve their problems but the employees said that the sit-n would continue till the issuance of permanent employment notification.However, no education department authority so far contacted the protesters to end the sit-in.The protesting employees said that the sit-in would continue throughout the night.
