Summary Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said 52 terrorists killed, 4 surrendered before security forces in Op Khyber-IV
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Dawn Leaks can only be made public by the government as it is their prerogative, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Major General Asif Ghafoor in his Rawalpindi media talk.
Talking to media persons, he opened the discussion by Pakistan Army’s triumphs in Operation Khyber-4 saying the soldiers successfully gunned down 52 terrorists while 4 surrendered themselves to security forces. “Pak Army blew several explosive tunnels … 250 km square area near Rajgal Valley cleared by the forces … two soldiers were martyred with six injured,” he told media.
On Karachi operation
He praised Sindh Rangers for cracking down terrorist networks in the provincial capital, adding that Karachi police should be strengthened to lower the street crimes in the city. “Incidents of extortion and target killing are low as compared to past,” he said.
‘Punjab CM initial target in Arfa tower attack’
ISPR DG stressed that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif was the initial target in terrorist attack near Arfa Software Technology Park. Punjab CM was scheduled to visit Arfa tower but the terrorists switched their target to police later on, he revealed. Asif Ghafoor told that terrorists had planned further attacks on Shehbaz Sharif which were foiled by the intelligence agencies.
On Musharraf’s statements in media
Pakistan Army spokesperson said Pakistan belongs to everyone and no one can harm it if we stay together, adding that differences can occur inside the territory but we are all the same outside the boundary.
He commented that former military dictator Pervez Musharraf talks about politics in his personal capacity, ‘only COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa can give policy statements about the army’.
Pak-US relations
When asked about the US President Donald Trump’s revised policy about Pakistan and Afghanistan, he said the announcement will be made tomorrow and there are mere speculations about the construct in media at the moment. Foreign Office will release their statement over it and we have to prioritise Pakistan’s interests if strict policies are made, he added.
Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor mentioned that nationwide anti-terrorism operation Zarb-e-Azb was without any prejudice, 95% people of FATA in IDPs have returned home and it is possible that others don’t want to return. “We didn’t force anyone to return and provided them all kinds of facilities in IDPs,” he maintained. ISPR DG believes that there is no rift in civil-military relations in Pakistan.
On Senate Chairman s suggestion of holding inter-institutional dialogue in the presence of premier, COAS, Supreme Court CJ and other members of the army and civilian government, he said Pakistan Army will comply to the decisions made by those in power. He highlighted the services of minorities in Pakistan and revealed attempts of portraying sectarian divide by RAW, NDS and other terror outfits in the country.
