Summary Senate chairman said democracy was weakened by conspiracies against parliament, politicians
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani recalled that parliament and democracy were damaged deliberately by un-democratic forces, suggesting that the institutions should remain within their constitutional limits.
While addressing the Independence Day celebrations at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services on Friday, he pointed out that four out of Quaid-e-Azam’s fourteen points also demand provincial autonomy while people of the country are declared traitor for raising their voice for such cause. “Struggle to divide Pakistan on linguistic basis is underway which has made its roots hollow,” he claimed.
He further stated that wrong facts have been registered in the history textbooks, adding that the struggle to ensure democracy is missing from the course. History tells us that politicians, political parties and parliament was damaged by a deliberate conspiracy, Rabbani said.
Talking about the rift between centre and provinces, he commented that time has come to make some basic decisions, recommending the state institutions to follow their constitutional roles and avoiding confrontation.
The way people of Pakistan fought against terrorism is commendable, he lauded.
