According to the US paper Washington Post, Grossman will replace Richard Holbrooke as new Special Envoy of the United States for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will formally announce his appointment on Friday. The paper reported that differences between the State Department and the White House delayed the appointment for the post. Grossman had worked as an assistant secretary of state for European affairs and US ambassador to Turkey. He retired as undersecretary of state for political affairs in 2005.
