Summary The Punjab government on Sunday decided to retain a ban on Basant festival. This decision may disappoint many people including Punjab Governor who were keenly interested to celebrate this festival.

According to the government, the decision of retaining ban on Basant has been taken to protect the life and property of people.The colourful Basant festival has always been haunting the Lahorites by winning their hearts and jubilations. This festival also gained equal fame on international level. Various activities have been the part and parcel of Basant. On one side, there have been the loud and exciting words of ‘Bo Kata’, while on the other, the festive gatherings of delicious food dishes have been organized especially for the occasion.When PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif formed a committee to reconsider the ban on Besant, the kite-flyers and Basant lovers got excited and started preparing for the festival. Governor Latif Khosa was also willing to celebrate Basant and he was even ready to go to Raiwind to celebrate Basant with Mian Nawaz Sharif. However, the Punjab government decided to retain and implement the ban on Basant.
