No single party can resolve national issues alone: Gilani

Summary Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that it was impossible for a single party to pull the country out of current challenges, instead all the parties and people have to work jointly to tackle these challenges. PM also asked the Punjab government for necessary measures to check growing incidents of kidnapping for ransom, and offered to deploy Rangers for assistance. Gilani, who visited Rahim Yar Khan to perform the ground-breaking of several development projects for southern Punjab, in his address at a public gathering, pointed to the growing complaints of increasing incidents of lawlessness, extremism and terrorism and vowed to eradicate them.

He said all political parties were unanimous on standing against the challenge of terrorism and extremism. He said all state institutions were strong and were working for further strengthening of the country. He said the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto serves as a beacon light for the party to follow. He said Shaheed Bhutto announced restoration of democracy while addressing a gathering here and even sacrificed her life for the cause. He said all state institutions were powerful and fully independent to perform their duties. Gilani said the objective of PPP was to strengthen and empower the people of the country without any discrimination. He said the party had always stood by the minorities and would continue to do so.The Prime Minister said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto bridge near Chachran Sharif would link the area with rest of the country. He announced construction of a flyover to link two parts of the city. He also announced upgradation of Khawaja Farid College to university level and land for a graveyard for minorities. He said the Benazir Income Support Programme, which was being acclaimed internationally for its transparency, would also provide health insurance and savings to women on certain slabs of the utility bills. He also announced a campus for Allama Iqbal Open University, which he said, would help educate the youth and provide them better job opportunities. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday inaugurated the project of gas supply to the Kot Samaba town of Rahim Yar Khan. The Prime Minister also performed the ground-breaking of a Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Rahim Yar Khan.The gathering was also addressed by Minister for Textiles Makhdoom Shahabuddin, and attended by members of national and provincial assemblies, besides leaders and workers of associated organizations of the Pakistan Peoples Party and a large number of women.
