(Web Desk) – Secretary, Economic Affairs Division, Tariq Mehmood Pasha has been appointed as the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday after Dr Muhammad Irshad retired of the service.

The BS-22 officer has been "transferred and posted" with immediate effect after a notification was issued today.

Pasha is an officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS). The notification dated July 3rd was issued by the Cabinet Secretariat of the Establishment Division.

The development has come in the final phase of the Panamagate probe being conducted by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).

Earlier, JIT head, Additional Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Wajid Zia had complained in the top court that National Accountability Bureau (NAB), FBR and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) among other institutions were not cooperating in the probe against Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif s family.

Before the fresh appointment today, Dr Muhammad Irshad, the former FBR chief had denied allegations of the JIT and claimed that all record concerning the premier’s family was forwarded to the probe committee.
