ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has said on Monday that Pakistan and the United States (US) are strategic allies for a long time.

The premier convened a meeting with a five-member delegation of United States Senators led by John McCain.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz and National Security Advisor Nasir Janjua among others.

During the sitting, McCain said that the United States regards terms with Pakistan as very important and that cooperation between the two government is needed for peace in the region.

The premier said that the two states share a long partnership and strategic alliance. He stressed strengthened Pakistan-United States partnership to counter challenges. While informing the visiting senators about government’s efforts to counter terrorism, the premier said that terror attacks have significantly curbed in the country in the past four years.

The government has regained trust of the investors owing to better economic status, he said.

PM Nawaz said that Pakistan is desirous of good neighbourly terms with both India and Afghanistan. He called for long-lasting cooperation among Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States (US) for peace in Afghanistan.

The premier raised the issue of atrocities in Occupied Kashmir by Indian troops with the US senators. He called for the United States to play role in curbing violence in the held-valley.
