Summary The military leader said that Pakistan is always ready to act on intelligence
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said on Wednesday that the military fully endorses FATA reforms, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.
The army chief visited Peshawar Corps Headquarters and was briefed over Pakistan-Afghanistan border situation. While addressing the troops, General Bajwa called for a mutual trust between the two neighbours to counter threats in the region instead of leveling allegations.
The military leader said that Pakistan is always ready to act on intelligence and is continuously sharing information.
However, he said that the army was focusing to bring stability and peace to the successes garnered in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). General Bajwa also said that the military was standing by the side of institutions to rid the country of evils.
The army is not in favour of the status quo and that cooperation and trust is the best way forward, the army chief added.
In March, the federal cabinet approved principle recommendations of the FATA Reforms Committee.
While chairing the meeting, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif stressed the need for focusing on development of under-developed areas for improving the living standards of the people.
The premier said due shares will be given from the national resources to Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and FATA people.
However, in May FATA reforms bill was suspended in the National Assembly causing an uproar by the opposition.
The session heated up after the aggressive speech of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai. Opposition leader Khurshid Shah strongly condemned the government while accusing the lawmakers of halting the bill through their allies.
