Summary May Day is being observed today across the globe with pledge to work for welfare of the labourers.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Like other parts of the globe, International Labour Day is being observed across the country including the provincial metropolis today (Monday) to renew pledge for protecting rights of workers.
All government and private organisations, educational institutions and markets will remain closed to observe Labour Day.
Different political and labour organizations‚ particularly the labour wings of political parties and professional bodies are organizing programmes to highlight significance of the day and rights of the workers.
Seminars and rallies are also being held in different cities to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives in Chicago in 1886 for the rights of the labourers.
In Lahore, different organizations are marking the day with protest and rally outside Press Club which demand equal rights for the laborers. Several labor organizations including Pakistan Workers Confederation, National Labour Federation Pakistan, All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union, political parties and social organizations have chalked out programs to take out rallies in support of labor community s rights.
Locals have also taken out rallies in the support of laborers of Chicago who offered their lives to get basic rights in 1886 in Sukkur whereas a massive gathering is also witnessed at Council Chowk in Faisalabad.
In Gilgit Baltistan, to highlight importance of the event, labor organizations have devised a number of programs.
In his message on occasion, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez-Ur-Rehman said steps have been taken to improve their socio-economic condition. He said ongoing economic transformation initiatives project costing over twelve billion rupees will bring a positive change in the life standard of farmers.
The labour union of United Workers Welfare Association and different civil organizations jointly staged a rally in front of Peshawar Press Club to pay tributes to the sacrifices of Chicago martyrs.
Carrying placards and banners, the speakers urged the government to initiate welfare projects and schemes for labourers.
