ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar has said on Thursday that beauty products are causing skin diseases and the provincial governments should chalk out an action strategy against substandard products.
The state minister filed a reply in the National Assembly today that called for an action under Drug Act 1976 as fairness skin products including bleach creams were termed harmful.
She called for provincial governments to monitor sale and manufacturing of products. The authorities concerned should collect samples of products and forward those to drug testing laboratory, she added.
While addressing the House, she also talked about sale of substandard stents in Lahore hospitals by saying that the ministry is pursuing the issue and the implants would now be imported from specific countries.
Prices of the heart implants would also be regulated, the minister said.
Tarar also said that number of Acute Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients stands at over 1 lac in Pakistan.
