Summary The standing committee of Senate announced to conduct raids for prohibition of drugs
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate standing committee for secretariat held its session on Tuesday where it discussed the drug abuse in private schools.
The committee members expressed rage on the lack of responsibility taken by private schools authorities to stop the promotion of dangerous drugs. It has summoned Narcotics DG and Islamabad chief commissioner.
It was stated that private schools were involved in promotion of drugs and vulgarity. On the other hand, Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) said that eradicating drug abuse in schools was out of their control.
The authority officials stated that action could be taken against schools if there is evidence regarding use of drugs. Senator Talha Mehmood suggested that running tests of school kids would certainly yield evidence. PEIRA responded that private schools would not allow drug test when they hadn’t even allowed polio vaccines for children in past.
“Some private schools even have smoking rooms,” Talha Mehmood said. Senator Kulsoom also shared her opinion saying that drugs were sold at a few private school canteens.
