Summary The recommendations entail to have FATA merged with KP
(Web Desk) – Legality of recommendations of FATA Reforms Committee 2016 has been challenged in Supreme Court on Friday by representatives of multiple tribal agencies.
The development has come after a meeting of the federal cabinet approved recommendations of the committee earlier this month that entailed merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The recommendations also entail to have Frontier Crimes Regulation repealed.
Malik Khan Marjan of North Waziristan Agency, Malik Waris Khan Afridi of Khyber Agency, Malik Bahadur Shah of Bajaur, Malik Attaullah of South Waziristan, Malik Baz Gul of Darra Adamkhel among others filed the petition under Article 184(43) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Federal government, President through Aiwan-e-Sadr, minister of states and frontier regions through Secretary Safron, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor and Secretary of Cabinet Division have been declared respondents in the plea.
Addressing a meeting of the Federal Cabinet on March 3, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that there was a need to focus on development of under-developed areas.
The premier had said that due shares off the national resources would be given to Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA.
He said that it is obligatory for the federal and provincial governments to work for the welfare of the people.
