ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The matter of extension in military courts has turned out to be a worrying issue for the government as if in case Pakistan Peoples Party didn’t approve the matter, the government won’t be able to make an amendment in the constitution in this regard.
In order to win the two-third majority, the government would have to make one senator willing for the approval otherwise, the joint session of the parliament would be the last option left.
As far as the stats are concerned, it is worth mentioning here that the total number of members within the senate is 104 out of which the most number of members have allegiance to Pakistan Peoples Party.

In order for make the amendment in the article, the government would need at least 77 members for approval.
If the members of members from Pakistan Peoples Party are excluded, the total number left will be 77.
Moreover, if the condition of MQM regards to due rights of the local government is not fulfilled, the number of votes would decrease to 69 as MQM members had also to be excluded in that case.
Hence, it would be too much difficult for the government to approve the matter from senate.
Amidst all the situation, the only option left with the government is to pass the amendment bill through the joint session of the parliament.
