World Economic Forum refutes claim over PM's Davos address

LAHORE (Web Desk) – World Economic Forum and Ministry of Foreign Affairs has slammed a news published by a Lahore-based newspaper that claimed PM Nawaz was not permitted to speak in Davos at the World Economic Forum owing to corruption investigation.

In a clarification published on website of the ministry, it is stated that the premier was invited by Executive Chairman Professor Kalus Schwab to Switzerland to participate in the forum.

PM Nawaz also convened a meeting with the chairman and discussed economic growth shown by Pakistan besides addressing the forum. Among the dignitaries that the premier convened meetings with were chief of Alibaba, Jack Ma, founder of Microsoft Bill Gates, Queen of Netherlands, Secretary-General of UN and others.

In his meeting with the Secretary-General, the premier raised Kashmir dispute and demanded that the issue be resolved in light of the United Nations (UN) resolution.

The World Economic Forum has refuted the paper’s news in a letter that states: "The Forum is happy to confirm that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, participated in the Annual Meeting 2017 in Davos-Klosters from 17-20 January.

The Prime Minister was invited by the World Economic Forum and his agenda was prepared in consultation with his office, keeping in mind their objectives and key priorities. This schedule included several meetings with key leaders from business and politics.

As the sixth largest country in the world, Pakistan is an important global player and the World Economic Forum looks forward to engaging the country in its system initiatives and projects through public-private cooperation."
