LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Black shopping bags are still under use throughout the country despite the ban imposed on them. A fine worth Rs 50,000 and 3-month imprisonment had been decided for the manufacturer, seller and user of these bags yet the environment department is completely lull at the violation, reported Daily Dunya.
The tall claims by the department have remained claims only and the sale and purchase of black shopping bags is still quite normal in the city. According to details, the environment department had launched a campaign against the black shopping bags but these claims were on paper only. Black shopping bags are still being used in the city and they are most commonly used for the sale and purchase of fruits.
It is pertinent to mention here that the goods kept in black shopping bags can prove harmful for health. Though they had been banned precisely for this reason under Polythene Bags Ordinance 2002, they are commonly used in the areas of Badami Baagh, Siddique-pura, Township and Jain Mandir areas.
On the other hand, environment departments is also considering the suggestions of introducing bio-dioxiable bags and meetings are being held with the manufacturers in this regard.
