Summary There are Rabita committee members in Karachi but they’re not allowed to work on ground, says Nusrat

KARACHI, LONDON: (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Nadeem Nusrat has on Friday said that MQM founder Altaf Hussain was disappointed with the members who left the party. He said that there were Rabita committee members in Karachi but were not being allowed to work on the ground, reported Dunya News.

Talking on ‘Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath’, Nadeem Nusrat said that there was no shortage of workers of the party in Karachi but they were not being allowed to work. When asked by Kamran Khan why these workers were not to be seen on the ground, he said that the workers were demonstrating on the roads and one such demonstration could be seen today but they weren’t allowed to go to the ‘Yadgaar-e-Shuhada’.

Kamran Khan said that all the members of MQM who were inside the parliament had already left the party. Nadeem Nusrat said that the real identity of the party were the people of Karachi. He said that it were the people who had voted MQM and the demonstration today was quite apt to prove where the people of Karachi stood.

“Yes, there is disappointment that some people have made the wrong decision. There are still over 1200 MQM workers in the jails and had these parliamentarians also chosen to stand firm they’d have been given a better treatment as they were parliamentarians. But they chose to go to the other side. So yes, there was disappointment. Altaf Hussain was also disappointed. But there are people who have reestablished the contacts with us and you will see important developments in the coming week too”, said Nusrat.

When Kamran Khan said that most of the prominent faces had joined the other side, Nadeem Nusrat said that prominent faces didn’t mean anything for the MQM. “MQM workers are from humble background. We have seen a lot of difficulties in our lives. For us, it doesn’t matter who are the prominent faces. Our structure allows leaders to grow. In 1992 too, most of the prominent faces had left MQM. But we survived. Then there was crackdown again and more prominent faces left but MQM survived”.

He said that MQM’s real power lied with the on-ground workers and that force was still intact.
