KARACHI (Dunya News) – Mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhtar has been released from Central Jail on Wednesday after he was bailed out in the remaining one case out of 39 registered against him.
Leaders Dr Farooq Sattar and Amir Khan among huge number of supporters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) welcomed the mayor out of jail.
The development has come in after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) approved his bail earlier in the day.
The bail was granted in a case pertaining to Waseem Akhtar’s alleged involvement in the treatment of terrorists at the former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain’s hospital.
During the case hearing, the court directed him to submit bonds worth Rs 0.5 million.
Akhtar was arrested in July over accusations of role in riots in Karachi on May 12, 2007. He was then serving as the home minister of Sindh and the riots happened under his watch.
He is also facing charges of sedition and arranging medical care for alleged terrorists.
