ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – First official meeting of inquiry committee formed to probe into Dawn story is underway at Punjab House in Islamabad.
A seven-member inquiry committee headed by retired Justice Aamer Raza would ascertain source behind leaking the information about a high-level meeting between top military and civilian officials.
Earlier, an English newspaper published an alleged fabricated story over matters involving national security that were deliberated upon in the last NSC meeting, attended by the outgoing army chief General Raheel Sharif among other dignitaries.
The premier statedf that the report had risked the national security. Print and electronic media was called for by the attendees to show high standards of reporting and do away with speculations.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed was asked to step down from his post.
"The planted story related to the NSC and NAP meetings published in Daily Dawn on 6th October was a breach of national security. Evidence available so far points to a lapse on part of Information Minister, who has been directed to step down from office to enable holding of an independent and detailed inquiry," the government had stated in a press release.
