Summary Around 399 persons died in the quake that found its epicenter in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – October 26, 2016 marks the first anniversary of a deadly earthquake that claimed at least 399 lives, mostly in Pakistan while tremors were felt across South Asia.

Around 280 persons died in the quake that found its epicenter was around 82 kilomteres (km) southeast of Feyzabad in Afghanistan with at least 212.5 km of depth.

Some four lives were reportedly lost in Indian-held Kashmir.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded the magnitude of Richter Scale at 8.1 however, United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported 7.5.

Tremors were felt in China, Indian capital, New Delhi, Nepalese Kathmandu, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan among others.

Hundreds of wounded were admitted to different hospitals in Swat and Peshawar.

Indian premier, Narendra Modi had telephoned Pakistani counterpart and President of Afghanistan and offered assistance in relief and rescue operations.
