Phones are being tapped to assist investigation process, reveals DG IB

Summary The department is achieving targets to safeguard the national integrity, DG IB said.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan said that telephones are being recorded only to assist investigation process.

Addressing the session of Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, DG IB revealed that the authorities tap telephones of the people when the under custody suspects level any revelation or take name of that particular person.

He said several criminals have been detained in a joint operation with Rangers and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) while various steps have also been taken in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain law and order situation.

The department is achieving targets to safeguard the national integrity, he said.

He added: “Compare our work with the previous officials you will see the difference as we work for national security. We are proud of what we have done for the people.”

Aftab Sultan said that telephones of about 98 percent people are being tapped due to security concerns however, the Prime Minister has never ordered to record any citizen’s phone.

He said the premier regularly gets briefing over the investigation process.

The letter about recording mobile phone record of Senator Saleem Mandviwalla is true as it was issued by the signature of Assistant Director Islamabad headquarters but the file has been closed over satisfaction.

Meanwhile, committee member Muzaffar Shah suggested that Chairman Senate and National Assembly Speaker should be informed before tapping telephones of any parliamentarian.
